YouTube : the video sharing site everyone loves !

The beginnings and evolution of YouTube

Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, former PayPal employees, founded YouTube in February 2005. Initially, they envisioned a video dating site. However, they quickly changed direction. The first video, "Me at the zoo," features Jawed Karim at the San Diego Zoo. Google acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion in October 2006, retaining its name and team.

The Early Years

In the beginning, YouTube struggled to attract users and videos. The founders boosted activity by simplifying the site's usage and inviting tech industry contacts to upload videos. Gradually, YouTube gained popularity.

YouTube Today

Today, YouTube is one of the most visited websites in the world, with over a billion users. Every minute, 300 hours of video are uploaded. A major milestone was Apple's 2007 announcement to integrate YouTube with Apple TV, leading to the conversion of videos to the H.264 format.
